valentine’s day

As most things that have changed over time, Valentine’s Day is one of them. Originally, this day is associated with Saint Valentine who was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote “from your Valentine” as a farewell to her. Read more here.

So by the 15th century, this concept was then associated with romantic love that seems to have continued on till today. Hearts, candy, cupid and greeting cards have all found their way into our lives on this one-day of the year. Confessions, proposals and weddings are given a new life when done on this day. It somehow makes the moment just a little bit more special than all the other 364 days in the year.

But for all those single people out there, it gives us another reason to sit down breathe in a breath of fresh air and just love who we are! We don’t need anyone else to tell us how we should feel or who to love. It’s all just one big misunderstanding for something that once stood for a goodbye letter from a father to his daughter.

On browsing through the Internet for inspiration, I came across this design that seemed so apt that I had to do it on my own nails. It’s quirky yet so simple. Love it!

On popular demand, I was asked to do a Valentine’s Day design on my nails. Notice the lack of excitement and creativity for something that I just don’t believe in.
